Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes --- The Test of Modesty!
Now what is modesty? High necklines and weird styles? Well... it's much more and this will tell you if what you wear is a modest outfit..
Modest Is Hottest.
- HEAD--- Put both hands on top of head. If shirt rises up on stomach it is to small.
- SHOULDERS--- Put each hand on its own shoulder and see if you can see down your sleeves. if you can then it is not modest.
- KNEES--- Hands on knees with body slightly bent over. If you can see down your shirt it is not modest.
- TOES--- Bend at a 90 degree angle if your shirt slides up at all, pants fall down at all, or if you can see down your shirt front (again) then it is not modest.

DO IT YOURSELF!
If you search the stores and come up empty-handed, just DO IT YOURSELF!! Here are some pictures of outfits I have designed and made myself. It's easier than you think! I will keep adding to this collection as I finish my sewing projects.
I made this dress out of four $1 scarves.
I made this dress with my Grandma. Three ways to wear it!
I made this skirt, and we found a local artist, Elaine Hewson, to create the scarf. That's a fun way to get an original accessory!
modest clothing ideas
| Have you noticed how the clothes seem to be getting more and more skimpy? Well, they are! When I look in the girls section for clothes that are "my size" (which is supposed to be 12 or 14) I am always really disappointed when I try them on. Too short, too low, too see-through, too tight, shows my midriff.....on and on the list seems to go. So, my solution-go to the ladies section, and buy x-small or small. This usually takes care of several of the modesty issues. So, my first group of pictures shows dresses from the ladies section with minor alterations to make them modest. | ||||||||||||
Add a colorful tank to cover a lower neckline.
Add a simple colored tee shirt under a sleeveless dress.
When you are choosing a tank to compliment your dress, here are a few tips:
*Try to find a color that is only hinted at on the dress fabric. As shown above, I found a dress that has dark pink flowers on a cream background, and on each flower, there is a coral colored center. I chose a coral top to go with that dress. The Hawaiian dress is mostly dark blues, so the light blue shirt compliments it well. It also would look cute with a yellow, orange, or black top.
*Stay away from white tanks or ones with lace on them. It is too suggestive of undergarments.

Every couple of days I will try to post new outfits and lots of tips on making almost any outfit modest. The first step to finding modest clothes is knowing what your dress standards are. All of the outfits on this blog will be following my standards which are:
No sleeveless shirts
Shorts and skirts must be knee length
No bikinis
No cleavage
No midriff (tummy showing)
